CBT — Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
CBT focuses on the concept that your thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and actions are interconnected. Once you become aware of those thoughts, you can focus on the feelings they bring and adapt the actions that follow. The CBT approach aims to help you deal with overwhelming problems in a more positive way — bringing them into awareness and breaking them down into smaller, more manageable parts.
Psychodynamic Therapy
Psychodynamic therapy focuses on your unconscious thoughts, showing how feelings and behaviours in the present are shaped by experiences and perceptions from the past. The psychodynamic approach aims to show how early experiences and relationships shape the expectations and attitudes we carry into adulthood. We may carry past patterns and dynamics into our current experiences and new relationships — sometimes with negative effects that cause us harm.
You may at times feel stuck, with limiting beliefs about yourself and what you can achieve. This can impact your happiness and your ability to move forward in everyday life. Therapy can help to increase self-awareness, develop strategies, and encourage you to be kinder to yourself.
What you hope to discuss may stem from your childhood, difficult life events, worries, illness, family dynamics, or work and social pressures. It may relate to addiction, bereavement, depression, or anxiety. All of these can lead to a sense of helplessness or even despair. Speaking about the impact these experiences have on you can be instrumental in moving forward.
Siobhán will draw on her wealth of experience and work with you to achieve the best possible outcome.
How it works
Therapy can be hugely beneficial, particularly when based on regular personal interaction. Siobhán will discuss what you hope to achieve during your time together — this may change course as your therapy progresses. Along the way, you will work towards understanding your triggers, developing coping strategies, overcoming obstacles, increasing your happiness, and enabling change.
You may have no wish to make any adjustments and instead simply want to talk about your thoughts and feelings — perhaps to someone other than a friend or family member, in a space where you can speak freely and at your own pace.
During therapy you will not be told what you should or should not feel or do. Instead, you will have the time to reflect alongside a professional in order to find your own answers. The process is a unique personal experience, tailored specifically to you.
