About Meningitis C and Hib (Menitorix)
Menitorix is a combined Hib/MenC conjugate vaccine. Hib was once the commonest cause of bacterial meningitis in children under 5 in the UK and can also cause epiglottitis, pneumonia and septicaemia. MenC infection can cause meningitis and septicaemia and is now rare in the UK thanks to widespread vaccination.
In the UK the Hib/MenC booster has historically been given at around 1 year of age. It is used privately for catch-up in children who have missed doses.
What it protects against
Protection
Invasive Hib disease (meningitis, epiglottitis, pneumonia and septicaemia) and Meningococcal group C meningitis and septicaemia.
How it's delivered
Delivery
Intramuscular injection.
Doses
Number of doses required
A single dose is normally sufficient as a booster in children from 12 months onwards, provided the primary Hib schedule was completed in infancy.

Who should consider it
Children requiring catch-up Hib/MenC vaccination, and some at-risk adults following clinical assessment.
Contraindications
Important information
Confirmed anaphylactic reaction to a previous dose or to any component of the vaccine.
