The test
What is spirometry?
Spirometry is a simple, non-invasive breathing test that measures how much air you can breathe in and out, and how quickly you can do so. You breathe into a mouthpiece connected to a device called a spirometer. The test takes just a few minutes and causes no discomfort.

Spirometry can identify and monitor conditions including asthma, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), pulmonary fibrosis, and other lung diseases. It can also detect early changes in lung function before symptoms appear — making it a valuable preventative screening tool.
