A cholesterol test — also called a lipid panel — is a blood test that measures the levels of different fats (lipids) in your bloodstream. These include total cholesterol, LDL (bad) cholesterol, HDL (good) cholesterol, triglycerides, and the LDL/HDL ratio. Together these numbers paint a detailed picture of your cardiovascular risk.
