What is bowel cancer screening?
Private bowel cancer screening at The Doctor's Lounge uses a faecal immunochemical test (FIT) — a simple, accurate home testing kit that detects tiny traces of blood in your stool that would not be visible to the naked eye. Blood in the stool can be an early indicator of bowel cancer or pre-cancerous polyps. The test is completely non-invasive, painless, and done in the privacy of your own home. You simply return the sample to us and we arrange laboratory analysis, with results reviewed by your GP.

What does bowel cancer screening tell us?
A positive FIT result means that blood has been detected in your stool sample. This does not necessarily mean cancer — blood in the stool can have several causes including haemorrhoids, inflammatory bowel disease, or small polyps. However a positive result always warrants further investigation, typically a colonoscopy, which we can arrange promptly through our specialist network. A negative result provides important reassurance and forms part of your baseline health record for future comparison.
